4 Affordable Concealers I Couldn’t Live Without | ElleyMae.com

There’s no hiding how much I adore drugstore makeup.

Since I first started wearing makeup as a young teenager, Maybelline & Rimmel have been my favourite drugstore brands for years. I still remember wearing Maybelline’s infamous Dream Matte Mousse in a shade far too dark with about 20 layers of their Great Lash Mascara to top off the look. Ahhh… Those were the days… Nowadays, tweens are better at contouring and taking selfies than I am. And I’m 22?!

Regardless of how the times have changed, brands like Maybelline & Rimmel have always seemed to stay in the limelight. Why? Because their products are not only great quality but also extremely affordable; even the world’s greatest makeup artists choose to use over high-end brands to this day.

Keeping in mind my obsession for drugstore makeup, allow me to introduce another obsession of mine…

Hi, I’m Elley and I’m a concealer-a-holic.

If there is one product that I simply could not live without, it’d be concealer. Acne, hyperpigmentation, veiny eyelids & dark circles are no match for a good concealer. I swear, if it was socially acceptable, I’d wear concealer all over my face & just skip foundation all together. My only struggle – finding a concealer light enough for my skin tone that has the perfect full coverage finish I love and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Let’s take a look at my all time favourite drugstore concealers shall we?

Maybelline Master Conceal
This concealer is one of the best I have ever tried. And I’m not talking just drugstore, I mean high end too. Sure, I’ve heard loads of mixed reviews on this concealer but that doesn’t affect my opinion. I absolutely adore this concealer. It’s soft, creamy & super blendable.

You see, not a lot of concealers from the drugstore are light enough for my skin. Sure, they may match my skin tone perfectly, but not so much when it comes to highlighting my under eyes. Bummer. But, lucky for me, Maybelline’s Master Conceal is actually light enough for under my eyes. It’s one of the only concealers from the drugstore that I will use under my eyes actually.

Rimmel Match Perfection
Just like the previously mentioned Maybelline Master Conceal concealer, this one too is a match for my skin tone. Light enough to highlight under my eyes & pigmented enough to really cover my dark circles, this one just might be my favourite. Actually, it is, 100%. It’s got great coverage and is super-dooper creamy & easy to blend. Oh, & the applicator is pretty handy too.

I have gone through so many of these concealers over time. Each time it gets around to another one of Priceline’s infamous 40% off cosmetics sales, I prepare to stock up. I will never let my Rimmel Match Perfection concealer stock get low. Literally, ever. It’s just too darn good to be without. Trust me on this one.

Maybelline Fit Me
Not as light as the two previously mentioned concealer, Maybelline Fit Me is still fabulous. I first tried the Fit Me foundation a few years back when I hardly knew much about makeup. In fact, I’m pretty sure I only picked it up because it was on sale for about $8 at Coles supermarket. Anywho, I figured if I love the foundation, surely I’ll love the concealer right? Right. Some would even go as far as saying love at first sight.

Regardless of the fact that the shade range doesn’t go as light as I’d like, I adore this concealer. It is extremely blendable & doesn’t oxidise at all on my skin. Of course, having pale skin, this is super important. There’s nothing worse then concealing blemishes & imperfections to end up more imperfect than before you started. Overall, Maybelline Fit Me gets a big thumbs up from this chick.

Maybelline Age Rewind
I’m actually currently all out of this concealer and it depresses me. Before I discovered the previously mentioned concealers, this was my go to for anything & everything. I would conceal dark under eyes, blemishes, hyperpigmentation – the works. Now, I primarily use the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer for my under eyes. The consistency isn’t too thick which is great because that means no creasing or cakiness. Side note: is cakiness a word? Spellcheck is telling me no, but my heart is telling me yes. Let’s just roll with it.

Where was I? Oh yes, Maybelline Age Rewind. It’s not as light as the others but it still gives me the radiance I look for in an under eye concealer. I would even go as far as saying that it is a “hydrating” concealer. It’s just the way it applies that makes me look so refreshed. And that’s just why I love it.
