Full-time blogger: someone who works primarily from home, coffee shops or bed, writing blog posts all day long & making money from ads, affiliate links & sponsored content.

Well I say blogger, shmlogger.

I mean, what even is a full-time blogger? And do they really make a full-time income from writing blog posts?

Well, technically yes. Some bloggers do. But unless you started blogging yeeeaaaarrs ago then it’s unlikely that you make $10k a month just writing posts.

There’s more to it than that.

In fact, being a full-time blogger isn’t really being a full-time blogger at all.

Say whaaaat?!

Take me for example – I’m a full-time blogger (in the eyes of my friends & family who have no idea what I do 🤦‍♀️) yet I’m 100 other things too.

I’m a Social Media Manager, I’m a Brand Photographer, I’m a Content Creator, An Entrepreneur, A Blogger, An Instagram Strategist, A Pinterest Manager & an Influencer. The real question here is, what am I NOT?! 😂

So, now that I’m finally a “full-time blogger” and I’ve learnt a thing or two about how this thing works, I want to share some insights into the lessons I’ve learnt & break down some common misconceptions.

Don’t worry, we’ll be having fun too 😉

So without further ado, here are just a few of the lessons I’ve learnt so far ⤵️

No one looks like a goddess every day, including me

Rocking my pyjamas on the daily? Yes please!

Despite what I thought before I started my full-time career from home, I don’t have to look like Kim Kardashian every single day.

I mean, there was a 4-day stint where I wore the same pyjama pants & dry shampooed my greasy mop just so I could spend more time creating stuff I love!

See… Not everyone is a goddess 🤦‍♀️

Quitting my job wasn’t scary, despite what I thought initially

There is so much stigma around “quitting the 9-5” and pursuing a career online that I seriously freaked out over the littlest of things.

I’m talking “how much money do I put away for taxes” and “what time will I start & finish my day”. Yep, those were the ridiculous questions that held me back from quitting sooner.

If you’re in the same boat and feel like you’re financially & mentally ready to quit your job to pursue being a “full-time blogger”, but struggle with the little things like I did, I say JUST DO IT.

Those nit-picky questions can be sorted with the help of a coach or accountant. Don’t let them hold you back from achieving your greatest passions. I’m sure glad I didn’t.

Networking is everything

A few weeks ago I got real with my email list about loneliness as an entrepreneur & how it can strike at any time.

In the email, I talked about 3 different ways to combat loneliness & would you believe it, networking was number one on that list.

If going insane isn’t on your to-do list, then you’re going to have to network. Whether that’s a quick comment on someone’s post, replying to emails or reaching out to your favourite bloggers, you’ve got to network! 💬

Because, well, no one wants to be home, alone & lonely while they’re trying to grow a business!

Actually wait, mindset is everything

I know, I know… I just went on about how networking is everything, but really, mindset is the key factor here.

Your mindset affects EVERYTHING in your business: your happiness, your creativity, your growth, your income – everything.

So when you’re scared of how much money you’re making, how many clients you’re hoping to secure or worrying about “scraping by”, you’ve got a higher chance of failing.

Why? Because I 100% believe in the Law of Attraction. In fact, I manifested me quitting my job 4 months earlier all because of the mindset shifts I made this year!

When you’re scared, you attract scarcity. When your happy, you attract good experiences.

Be what you want to attract & everything will happen just as it’s meant to.

I LOVE working from bed

This is definitely not something I do all of the time but when I’m feeling tired or my monthly visitor comes to say hey, bed is my choice of furniture to plonk my butt on 🙊

In all seriousness, you wouldn’t believe the amount of words I whipped out the day I wrote this blog post… 4622 & counting!

Why though? Because I snuggled up in bed with my pjs on (we’ll get to that in a minute), my bed socks & my beanie and just wrote my heart out.

Lucky I boast 98 words per minute (another major achievement of mine) 😉 so I got it all done pretty quick!

I’m way too creative for my own good

One of the hardest lessons I’ve learnt over the past few weeks of being a full-time blogger = I can’t do #allofthethings.

Seriously, do you know how hard it is to have 54 different things you want to get done in a day and you just physically [and mentally] can’t?!

There’s my social media templates & styled stock photos for my online shop. Then there’s blog posts, emails & Instagram captions. Oh and then there’s the membership site I dream about launching every second day. Ebooks, ecourses, workbooks..

Being creative is tough you guys. Also a blessing, but tough 🙈

No one has their shit together 24/7

This one hit me on August 30th when Jenna Kutcher posted the best Instagram post ever, all about being real on Instagram & the truth behind so many entrepreneurs.

Actually, I’ll just let you read the post for yourself! Here it is ⤵️

If that doesn’t summarise everything I’m feeling right now, then I don’t know what does! Seriously, Jenna might just be the most inspirational mac-and-cheese lover I’ve ever seen.

I could live off boiled eggs & toast and cups of tea

MY. GOD. You guys, dippy eggs (that’s my name for hard boiled eggs with runny yolks that you dip strips of toast into) are my most favourite thing E-V-E-R.

Every morning – if I can remember to cook myself a healthy breakfast, not just another cup of tea – I boil myself 2 eggs and smother 2 pieces of toast in butter.

Can’t forget the salt!

Pyjamas are suitable work attire

So you know how I was telling you before that I wrote over now 4961 words from my bed? Well yes, I was wearing pyjamas. And yes, I do wear them quite frequently.

Have you seen me on Instagram stories of late? I’m always in them!

I love wearing pyjamas so much, in fact, I wish they were acceptable attire to wear to the supermarket, Kmart & out for brunch on Sunday mornings.

Once I realised that I’m my own boss & I don’t have to be a goddess every day, my pyjama collection expanded by 10 times and I’ve never been happier 😂

Having no schedule drives me bonkers

Some people thrive off having full creative control over their day – being able to “go with the flow” and just do what feels right.

Me, on the other hand, I can’t handle having no schedule or structure. I thrive off that shit!

Give me a notepad and pen & girl, I’ll have a to-do list with numbers beside each task categorising its importance in no time 🙈

But in all seriousness, having no schedule is nice, I guess. Having the freedom to choose what I want to do, whenever I want to do it, that’s pretty cool.

I’m talking about not planning, not looking at the future & working out what steps I need to take to get me there. That’s the part I have to do or I’ll go mad.

There’s nothing I can’t do

I suppose I’d better end this post on an inspirational note, considering I’ve just made you sit through over 1300 words of jibber jabber.

Quitting my day job to pursue an online career is something that I have wanted to do for so long now. It’s been a dream of mine for years actually, ever since I first started blogging, influencing & making money from working with brands.

It’s infectious; posting online, helping other female entrepreneurs feel confident, feel a sense of community & feel like they have a friend in me.

Despite the fact that I’m no life coach, I don’t have a degree in psychology or anything like that, the way I see it: In my eyes, I am everything I want to be and I have never been more proud of myself than I am right now.

I love to educate, motivate & inspire. I love teaching you ladies how to kick ass online & share with you all my journey, no matter how un-glamorous that might be.

So, on that note, here’s to you…

The ladies reading this post, supporting my business, making me smile day in day out. You are the true winners here – thank you ❤️
