There are many lessons that I have learnt over the years from being an Instagram influencer that have helped shape me into the person I am today, on and off the ‘gram.

You see, being an influencer certainly keeps me busy; From creating fresh new content for my Instagram feed, replying to emails from brands or researching new ways to grow my reach, there’s always something to do.

It’s fun, it’s exciting & it’s extremely rewarding at times. Working with brands, growing a following of loyal fans & making a ‘lil side income. What’s not to love?!

But, like with anything in life, being an Instagram influencer can have its ups & its downs.

We can feel the pressure from other influencers, pressure from brands & pressure from ourselves (being the worst of them all). I mean, we’re constantly striving to improve our content, create a high-quality feed & grow our following every.single.day.

Oh, and the majority of us are still working a day job too – yikes!

So, my beautiful friend, it’s now time to take a look at the lessons I’ve learnt over these last few years of being an Instagram influencer & show you why it can be such a wonderful thing.

3 Major Lessons I’ve Learnt From Being An Instagram Influencer

Lesson #1 – You can’t please everybody

Despite the fact that I am one of those people who would love to be friends with everyone in the entire world, it’s just not realistic. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been on both sides of the story here (I’m not perfect either) but working hard on my mindset has completely changed my outlook.

Here’s a home truth – There will always be *someone* out there that doesn’t like what you do.

It doesn’t matter how kind, how honest or how transparent you are with everything you do, you just can’t please everyone. Learning this lesson has helped me both on Instagram & in my everyday life.

I now focus on creating content that my fav creative #bossbabes will 100% love & adore. They’re my main squeezes after all! 😜 They’re the ones that day after day show up for me, support me & just wanna be there for me (& I freakin’ love them for it!)

But in all seriousness, feeling the need to please everyone is something that a lot of people feel. We’re out to make friends with everyone, no matter who they are, what they like or where they live. Wow, that sounds kindaaaa stalker-ish.

So, over these past few years of being an Instagram influencer, I’ve learnt a lot about focusing on my own happiness & supporting those who feel a genuine want to support me too. Sure, you can 100% support everyone in what they do, but the feeling can’t always be mutual 💭

Always, always, alwaaaays keep an open mind on Instagram & remain positive, even when the hard times strike. It’s a tough hurdle to face at times but with a supportive community behind you, there’s always green grass on the other side!

Lesson #2 – I am capable of anything I want to achieve

Sounds dramatic, doesn’t it? I surely can’t do everything, right?!

WRONG.

I can do anything! And I damn well know that now (I didn’t before). But, after years of pushing myself to my absolute limits, I’ve learnt a lot. I now know that I can achieve anything I put my mind to.

Whether that be having the confidence to reach out to brands that I never in a million years thought would want to work with me or simply just doubling my rates & securing collaborations easy-peasy, I have achieved amazing things!

“Being an Instagram influencer hasn’t made me greedy, it’s made me confident.”

It’s made me see that I truly am capable of anything my heart desires. It’s made me believe in myself more than ever before.

How freakin’ amazing is that?!

Lesson #3 – It truly is quality over quantity

Remember before when I mentioned that I had the confidence to double my rates & still secure collaborations with brands? Well, if it wasn’t for the quality of my work, I don’t think I could have done it.

The old saying “quality over quantity” is now like gospel to me.

At first, I thought that posting a minimum of 3 posts per day was what I had to do. I didn’t care how crappy my captions were or if I was using the right hashtags even. I just “knew” I had to post 3 times a day.

BIG MISTAKE.

Over time, I developed an Instagram strategy that cut me back to just one post per day & guess what, I grew even faster!

Yep, despite the fact that I was posting ⅓ less than what I was before because my captions were killer, my photo quality was always on point & my hashtags were suuuuper targeted, I grew my Insta no worries.

Focusing on creating 10/10 killer content for your Instagram will always put you above the rest. Strive to post only your best content & the results will speak for themselves.

So, that wraps up today’s post looking at the incredible things you can achieve when you put your mind to it.

Never in a million years did I think I’d love being an Instagram influencer half as much as I do. But it’s the life lessons I’ve learned, the friends I’ve made & the community I’ve grown that keeps me coming back for more.

This is such a fab post, I completely agree with the posting less and making the quality better. I used to post 3 times a day but I think my maximum is now 2 but the majority of days it’s only once. I think it’s made a difference.

For me, I am really shy in real life and struggle to make friends. But since starting my Instagram I have met so many amazing people that I hope I can someday meet. Being an influencer has also allowed me to share my passion of photography and makeup with so many people, which is also absolutely crazy to me.
Sometimes I just sit back and pinch myself when I get contacted from brands. I’m like who? me? It has been a whirlwind of a past 7 months and I honestly wouldn’t change it for the world.

You go girl! You should be so proud of how far you have come – your Instagram is just beautiful.
There is something so magical about the power of social media & how it can benefit one’s life (even if it is just an app).

I have built so much confidence from being an influencer & I love it.
Glad to see you do too!

Great post – and so true what you said about us being our own worst critics. The pressure we put on ourselves is sometimes crazy. I’ve been following for ages now and I love seeing how much you’ve grown – so you’re right, you CAN do anything!

    Keep up the great work!

You would think that we would naturally be our own number one supporter hey Phillipa? But, funnily enough, it’s the opposite.
Until we retrain the way our brains think about our successes, we are always so critical on ourselves (which is something everyone is *totally* guilty of.

Thank you so freakin’ much for following along girl – you are a wonderful human being.
I’ll be sure to keep pumping out more content like this for you to enjoy.

      Have a fab day girl,
      Elley xo

Great advice! I’m trying to up my game since I don’t post everyday but it’s good to know that once a day is just as good!

For sure Karla! There is nothing wrong with having a consistent schedule – even if that means once a day or possibly even just once every other day!

Do what works best for you & if you see growth – stick with it!
