It’s plain & simple really. When you find your audience, you find your tribe. And what’s your tribe? Die-hard fans, devoted babes, the people that will show up for you no matter what.
When you find your audience on Instagram, there’s every chance they’ll become your audience on Facebook too, Twitter, your blog or even make a purchase from your online store.
Your audience will become your go-to people; They become the ones you can rely on to appreciate every little thing you do.
Plus, when you find your tribe of die-hard fans, you will be able to create more of the content that they want & get better engagement. And what does better engagement equal? Larger influence, more opportunities to work with brands & of course, the possibility to make money through Instagram.

How to find your audience on Instagram
Start looking in the right places
Now that you are ready to find your tribe on Instagram, it’s time to stop looking in all the wrong places & start looking in the right places.
The more “niched down” & the more specific you are with your search for your audience, the better your results will be. You’ve got to drop the whole “wanting to please everyone” idea & avoid making the same mistakes I did.
Think about your audience – what are their interests? What do they like? How old are they? When you work these discovery questions out, you’ll find your audience on Instagram in absolutely no time.
It’s as simple as looking in all the right places.
Take all of the information you know about your audience & start looking through hashtags where you know they’ll be. Start engaging with their content, follow them, leave them a heartfelt comment. Go out & find your audience, don’t just expect them to find you.
Study your existing audience
Chances are that you’ve already got a few die-hard fans that show up for you day in, day out. So, what better way to find more people like that than to study your existing audience?!
Look into why your tribe love what you’re doing & why they even followed you in the first place. When you find out these answers, you can take those same techniques you used to woo over your existing audience & apply them to your not-yet-found audience.
I mean, if it worked once then the chances are that it’ll work again!
Pro tip: Your not-yet-found audience may even be hanging out on your existing audience’s profile. Engage with their content, scroll through the comments & see if anyone fits your ideal audience’s profile.
Use the right hashtags
Ahh.. The old “use the right hashtags” spiel. Well if I haven’t mentioned this 100 times over in my eCourse. *INSERT EMOJI*
In all seriousness, there’s a reason why I dedicated a whole module of SkyRocket Your Instagram to talking about hashtags. Hashtags are damn important girl. So when I tell you that you need to be dropping the spammy #likeforlike or #f4f hashtags, I mean it.
These “gain trick” hashtags might give you a sudden boost of likes on your content but guess what, those people don’t really give two hoots about becoming one of your die-hard fans.
By using the right hashtags, you’re upping your chances of building a solid, loyal & connected audience.
Put yourself in your audience’s shoes. What type of content might they be looking for on Instagram? What hashtags would they be found scrolling through?
How to keep your audience
So, now that you’ve found your audience, how the heck do you keep them?! Well, there’s 3 things that are essential to keeping your tribe engaged & making them want to stick around.
Engage with your audience regularly
It goes without saying that once you find your audience on Instagram, you need to engage with them to make them want to stick around.
I mean, haven’t we all done it – followed someone new after seeing a few gorgeous pics & then being let down because you never even get a reply to the hundreds of comments you leave them… It sucks, right?!
Therefore, how can you make sure you don’t end up making your audience feel this way? Engage with them regularly.
Now, I’m not saying that you have to make a strict schedule you need to follow in order to reply to comments, like their photos or spark conversation with them. But, you definitely should be aiming to take a little time each day to engage with your audience.
Give them more of what they want
You know before how I told you that in order to find your not-yet-found audience that you need to study your existing audience? Well babe, you can use that information for another reason. You can use that information to give your audience more of what they want.
I’m talking about running polls on your Instagram story to check what type of content they’re loving & checking in on how they feel about certain topics. I’m talking about studying what posts are your best & actually looking into why.
When you give your audience more of what they want, they’ll stick around. There’s no crazy explanation here – it’s as simple as that. They followed you for a reason, make them continue to follow you for the same.
Show your appreciation for them
It should come as no surprise to you when I say that appreciating your audience is one sure-fire way to make them stick around. I mean, everyone loves a little lovin’ right?!
So when it comes to woo-ing your existing audience & making them feel loved, there’s a few things you can do to show your appreciation. Here’s a few ideas:
- Always reply to your comments from your tribe
- Occasionally give them shoutouts on your Instagram story
- Ask them for their feedback
- Like & comment on their posts regularly
These are just 4 of the different ways you can show your appreciation for your existing audience on Instagram. Play around with your methods & see what works for your audience – everyone’s tribe is different.
