Well, bad luck girl, because right now, I’m not here to tell you that. In fact, I’m here to talk about what you should be focusing on (instead of profusely worrying about that silly old algorithm).
What I am here to talk to you about is something far more important. Something that will put you in front of the *right* audience on Instagram, help you grow a loyal following & not stress you out like the algorithm will.
What I’m going to teach you today will set you above the rest of your competition.
So what am I babbling on about?!
I’m talking about using call-to-actions on Instagram to increase your engagement (& loyal following of course) 👏🏼
You see babe, whilst you’re trying to work out the ins & outs of a super-hard-to-understand-genius-coding-system (or algorithm as we call it), loads of other Instagram influencers are out there “beating the algorithm” without even realising it. Oh, and probably making money doing it too.
But how? You ask.
With call-to-actions of course! Duh.
So, back when I first started on Instagram I seriously had no idea what I was doing! I’m talking captions, the best time to post, hashtags – basically, the lot. 😅
I came up with all of my captions in the moment & posted whatever came to mind that split second before hitting post! And let’s just say that didn’t always work out for me…
In fact, more times than not, my content failed.
All because of my poorly-put-together captions that were dull, lifeless & sparked no interest whatsoever from my audience. Each caption was a complete fail.
Mind you, every now & then I’d hit the jackpot and write a KILLER witty caption in the moment. But, more times than not, it was the previously mentioned disappointment.
It’s the witty, the intelligent & the heartfelt captions that reap the real rewards on Instagram. But we’ll chat more on that in a moment…
In one of my previous posts, I highlight 3 of the most common mistakes that Instagrammers make when it comes to their captions. The biggest issue? Not using call-to-actions.
I bet you already guessed that one, didnt you?
But, what actually are call-to-actions?
[A call-to-action is] a piece of content intended to induce a viewer, reader, or listener to perform a specific act. ^Definition taken from Google, so you know it’s legit.
With call-to-actions, you can basically ask your audience to do something – to take action.
So, rather than just telling your audience about a new blog post you wrote, you could include a CTA (for short) and ask them to visit your website & actually read the post!
Makes sense, right?
So, how do call-to-actions work?
Again, it’s simple really.
For example, you could try asking your followers to answer a question, to tag a friend, or to repost your photo. You can start challenges, build a community, or just ask your audience to share a personal story with you.
By using call-to-actions you will find your engagement rate increasing on each of your posts.
Now, depending on your niche, your CTA’s will differ from post to post.
If you’re posting an inspirational quote for example, you’ll find that allowing your followers to share personal story will work much better than asking them to comment their favourite emoji.
Why is that, you ask?
Because, the audience who are more likely to engage with your inspirational posts want to connect with you on a much deeper level, compared to someone who’s just around for your witty captions.
Here’s an example…
Let’s say that you’re a food blogger (mmmm, fooooddd). You’re posting about a new local cafe that you’ve just found, and that delicious bagel you just ordered. But posting a photo of your bagel with some stock-standard caption isn’t going to bring in the big bucks, or at least a good engagement rate.
Throw out your boring old caption & add some wit, a lil’ personality & a well thought out CTA (like asking them to tag their favourite local cafe, or sharing with you their favourite type of bagel).
All of a sudden what was a pretty boring slab of text has just turned into a wildly magnetising post.
Is there a secret method to creating fab call-to-actions on Instagram?
Well yes & no.
As I always say, don’t overcomplicate it. Keep it short, keep it simple & keep it super sweet.
Don’t waste your time creating *huge* call-to-actions on Instagram that are just going to confuse your audience. Work by those three S’s I live by – short, simple & sweet.
Ooh ooh!! And how could I forget?!
Did you know, the words you use also have a huge impact on the success of your CTA itself.
So, choosing the right words in your call-to-action is super important also. For example, rather than writing “click here to buy this top” try something like “grab it while it’s hot!” or “get in quick, they’re almost gone!”
Can you see how much of a difference it makes just by tweaking a few words? Crazy stuff, huh?!
So, the next time you’re thinking of writing a run-of-the-mill crappy caption, think again girlfriend. It’s time to step up your Insta-game & put that pretty little brain of yours to good use!
