When you’re growing your business – and in this case, growing your side-hustle – you go through a world of emotions, on the daily.
You’re fussing over branding, stressing about getting your messaging clear enough, worrying that you aren’t making enough money (and the rest of it!) and it’s weighing you down.
You constantly find yourself staring at your computer screen with no idea where to go next, what to do to actually make your side-hustle into a thriving & successful full-time business.
And I get it. I’ve been there, I’ve done that.
Actually, it really sucks.
But luckily for you ladies, the ones who are just starting to experience what it feels like to have that cloud of worry, stress & overwhelm over your head, I’ve learnt a thing or two from my own experiences that I’d like to share with you.
And before we dive in, this is where I want to remind you of something…
I am here to tell you that growing your side-hustle won’t always be sunshine and rainbows.
There will be dark days, there will be tough times & you will want to give up at one point or another.
In fact, I can guarantee there wouldn’t be a single full-time entrepreneur in the world – and I’m talking the most successful, most influential, richest & most powerful ones – that has never wanted to give up.
It’s a natural part of the process.
And now it’s my job to help you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Actually, it’s my job to help you see the light seeping through the cracks, all the way through the tunnel.
Because when one door closes, another opens. And when one dark day brings you down, a brighter day is just around the corner to lift you right back up again!
Now, are you ready to dive in?!
How to Remain Positive Whilst Growing Your Side-Hustle
Surround yourself with others just like you
A lot can be said for immersing yourself into a group – or community – of people just like you. People who can relate to what you’re going through & can be there to offer you support.
You see, growing your side-hustle & taking it full-time isn’t half as easy (or fun!) when you’re doing it all alone. There’s no one to bounce ideas off or tell all of your exciting news to. And most importantly, no one to keep you sane.
Yep, you heard me. You need to be around people who understand what you’re going through to keep you sane, hold you accountable and most importantly, have fun with!
Because the worst thing you can do when growing your side-hustle is to isolate yourself – to back into a corner, slide under the covers & not make any effort to build relationships with other ladies just like you.
Get involved in Facebook groups, join a mastermind, connect with someone who you admire through Instagram DM’s!
But just know, no matter how it’s done, surrounding yourself with others just like you is one sure-fire way to remain positive whilst growing your side-hustle.
Make time for self-care, regularly!
Are you currently burning the candle at both ends? As in, are you overworking yourself (both in business and your everyday life?)
As a side-hustler, you’re busy, right?! There are emails to reply to, client work to be done, products to finish & a day job to commit to (for now 😉)
When you neglect self-care & let everything but self-care take priority in your life, you are bound to burn out.
So, in order to thrive in your business, you need to put yourself first. You can set yourself daily rituals, like a morning or an evening routine where you focus on YOU. Or maybe you make yourself a habit tracker in your bullet journal.
There are loads of ways to prioritise your self-care, but for now, here are a few of my favourite ideas:
- Wake up every morning, put a smile on your face (even if you have to force it) & thank your lucky stars that you are alive today; more on gratitude shortly!
- Spend 10 minutes every day meditating; simply focusing on your breath and re-centering yourself
- Journaling; whether you do this freehand (where you just blurt out whatever is on your mind) or you find some great prompts online (Pinterest is great for this!), journalling is soooo good for the mind & removing mental clutter
- Pamper yourself once in a while; take a bubble bath, pop on a face mask, paint your nails, shave your legs (it doesn’t all have to be fancy 😉)
- Take a day off work; get a day of annual/holiday leave approved at your day job, keep your laptop shut off & just enjoy a day to yourself, doing absolutely nothing other than looking after yourself
And the list goes on…
Don’t hate your day job
I know, I know, you’re thinking “uhhhmmm… but how can I not hate my day job when it’s stopping me from taking my side-hustle full-time?!”
And girl, I hear you. I too used to think this way & fell into this trap.
But let me enlighten you…
In case you didn’t know, gratitude is the most powerful tool you’ll ever come across. And you see, when you’re focusing on the negatives of your day job & aren’t in a state of gratitude, appreciating it, you’re bound to end up in a negative spiral, feeling extremely depressed about “still working for someone else”.
Now, if we turn this around, and show gratitude for your day job, EVERYTHING CHANGES.
Suddenly you’re thankful that you have a day job to fund your side-hustle. You’re appreciative for the annual/holiday leave you’re accruing so that you can take a day or two off here & there to work on your side-hustle. Etc etc.
Once you step into a gratitude mindset & stop hating your day job, you’ll realise just how much quicker you can manifest your dream business.
And I know, it might seem hard to do at first. But once you get into the habit of realising when you’re in a negative mindset at that very moment in time, you’ll be able to say “wait, hold on a minute here! I shouldn’t be complaining about my bonus not being as big as such-and-suches! I should be grateful that my bonus can pay off my Convertkit subscription for the next 12 months!”
It’s all about how you perceive opportunities (aka your day job) that affects how fast your dream (aka quitting your day job) comes to life.
Well, that wraps up this post. I hope you feel a little lighter & more “in-tune” with what you need to do to remain positive in your side-hustle.
In the end, it comes down to surrounding yourself with others like you, making time for yourself to rest & rejuvenate, and shifting your mindset to a place of gratitude.
Because that is what growing a profitable side-hustle into a full-time business takes.
