Today, I am speaking with my very own Pinterest manager and absolute boss woman, Kate Wilkinson, who is a Pinterest strategist and a digital marketing expert.

Kate spends her days working with ambitious heart-led women who are ready to grow their passion into a profitable business all by using the power of Pinterest. To say that Kate loves Pinterest is probably an understatement. Pinterest is about to become your new best friend. In this episode, Kate and I dive into the reality of Pinterest and how incredible it can be and why it’s so underrated in the online business world.

Kate, welcome to the podcast.

Kate: Thank you so much. I’m so excited to be here.

Elley: It’s been fun getting on this interview. This is actually our third time jumping on. Kate and I’ve been having some technical issues behind the scenes, but we’re here you guys, we’re here. And we’re recording. So, I’m very excited to have you on.

Let’s start at the very beginning because I am actually curious to know this. I don’t know if I know how you got into business. So, for me, and for the ladies listening, could you share with us a bit about how you actually got into business and a bit about what you do?

Kate: My name is Kate and my business is called Kate Wilkinson Creative. I work as a Pinterest strategist, a coach, and an educator. I work with female service-based entrepreneurs to help them explode their presence online using my favorite platform ever.

I’ve been in my business full time for two and a half years now, coming up to three. And I guess you could say that the journey to running my own business came from realizing that corporate life ultimately wasn’t for me. And firstly, I don’t agree that you have to work 38 hours a week, I don’t believe that your productivity is tied to the amount of time you spend at your desk.

Elley: Yes, I agree!

Kate: And the values and the culture and the work, just none of it really set me on fire. At the end of my corporate career working in digital agencies, digital marketing is my background, I was working for a fairly high profile corporate agency and earning great money.

And, you know, we were working reasonable hours, but I didn’t want to work with CEOs of mining corporations or finance companies.

It was a big step for me to walk away from the financial security, but ultimately, it was passion over paycheck.

That really was the deciding factor. And I’ve always worked in the digital marketing space. I had started playing around with Pinterest on the side.

So, I used to have a little lifestyle blog, called Tell Me Tuesday. And it was like, I love that I used to do it what I had so much free time. I would decorate cakes, make cocktails and arrangements, and it was just so fun. And I started exploring Pinterest. Instagram really wasn’t a thing back then. I just kind of willy nilly posted my blog posts and summer cocktails onto Pinterest.

Then I started seeing a ton of traffic coming to my website. And it was all coming from Pinterest. And I was like, wow, this is a really small effort. And I’m getting these incredible rewards.

This all happened without even trying. I had thousands of subscribers and tons of traffic, and I was monetizing my blog and attracting paid partnerships and sponsored content. And you probably understand Elley, as you were a beauty blogger back in the day. And it was just all by mistake.
